Justice Anthony Kennedy believes this was the right decision for America and this is a good thing for all people. He writes, “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family,”
In addition, professional athletic teams, government buildings, websites, and pro gay individuals showed their support by changing their profile pics to the gay pride symbol.
President Barack Obama tweeted, “Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else” . He concluded his post with #Lovewins.
Social media sites on June 26, 2015 were flooded with that buzzword #lovewins. So did love really win? It appears that way in the present but in the long run it can be shown that true love did not truly win.
True Love has certain characteristics.
I Corinthians 13:4-6 reads: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
An honest evaluation of same-sex marriage doesn’t match up to the biblical definition of Love. That’s the standard for all born again Christians.
To my surprise, many professing Christians have shown support for this ruling and in order to do so is being dishonest and disobedient to God’s word.
True Love doesn’t rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. High-fiving a law that was passed to support same-sex marriage is deadly and not loving at all. Scripture clearly teaches that those who practice homosexuality will not inherit the kingdom of God. That is the truth.
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” I Corinthians 6:9-10
The passage above list other sins that are unacceptable to God so homosexuality is not an exclusive sin that is damnable. Truthfully all humans have at one time or another been guilty of the sins listed above–Including yours truly– but I’ve repented and turned to Christ for forgiveness of sins and restoration provided through his death, burial and resurrection.
The point Paul is making is that those who willing openly practice these sins will not inherit the kingdom of God. The passage is meant to serve as a loving warning to prevent people from the negative consequences of unrighteous living.
The good news is you can be guilty of any one of the sins listed above but if you repent and turn to Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, then you can be forgiven and cleansed and restored to a right relationship with God. Hear Paul conclude this in verse 11, as he mentions the former lifestyles of the Corinthians:
“And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” I Corinthians 6:11
That is something to rejoice about. Paul rejoices with the work God has done in these men and women’s lives-No matter what sins one is guilty of God can and is willing to forgive any repentant sinner. God desires all people to be apart of the kingdom of God and doesn’t want any to perish. That’s how true love wins.
Saying same-sex marriage is OK because it is popular and now made legal by the supreme court does not make it right. God’s word is the final authority for faith and practice.
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8
It is a lie to tell same-sex folks it is OK to live lives contrary to God’s will. It is also misleading and destructive for it leads to a path that is unfavorable in the end (REV 21:8) Celebrating a sin God clearly forbids is rejoicing in wrong doing and it is ignoring God’s clearly revealed will.
That is not very loving at all.
Love wins when sinners are confronted with the truth of the gospel. There is a heaven and all that repent and turn to Christ for forgiveness and restoration will be there. There is a hell and all that reject Christ and don’t repent will go there.
God so loved the world that He gave his only son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
